About Us
Calderglen Harriers is a running club for all levels of ability. Racing is important to us, and you will find that our training is geared towards improving your race performance and giving you the confidence and ability to take part in a variety of distance running events. If this sounds too serious, then you will be encouraged to see that many of our regular events are primarily social but also just happen to involve a run of some description.
Where we train
Founded in 1984 to promote road and cross-country running in East Kilbride and its surrounding area, the Harriers are affiliated to East Kilbride Sports Club. This multi-sport club is situated in Calderglen Country Park and provides the Harriers with the perfect training base, changing, showering and social facilities. The Harriers share the Sports Club facilities with the other sporting sections which include rugby, tennis, golf, cricket, and football. With all of these sporting activities going on, there is never a shortage of apres-training social events throughout the year to which all members and guests are welcome.
What we do
The Harriers take part in a wide variety of races, including the mass participation people’s half and full marathons such as Glasgow, Edinburgh and London. If you are training for that type of event, then why train alone. We are always willing to encourage new members to come along and try out some training sessions without any compulsion to join the club. Come along and make up your own mind.
At present the age group within the club ranges from primary school age to those in the seventy something category. Regardless of age, the Harriers all have one thing in common - a love of distance running.
